Appetizers

Be it any cuisine, appetizers really set the tone of the whole meal. It’s the beginning of a whole experience and if the beginning is not right, what follows after loses its importance. Apart from a typical meal starter for Indians samosas, chaats and vada pavs are always a bit closer to their heart. Huddled around a local chaat stall, demolishing one pani poori after another while also chatting away about life et al is not a choice – it’s the way of life and part of the culture. Please find some recipes here that might bring back a few such memories for you or maybe create some?

First of all sorry for being MIA for so long! Between spotty internet, several flights n trains, Indian monsoon, copious amounts of food, and the warmth of the loved ones, I just got a little dizzy and lost orientation. Forgot that there's a blog that I need to tend...

Winters in Charlotte were not exactly bliss, not to me at least. It wasn't cold enough to be covered with snow so that one could sneak out every now and then with a snow sledge. Neither was it cozy enough for you to be able to walk down the...

Dahi Vada

"Whip it as long as your hands can take it, and then whip some more. That's what makes vadas melt in your mouth" mummy would tell me with her fingers buried inside a bowl of smooth urad dal paste. Weather outside was perfect, not too hot and neither too...
I hate doing dishes. I have friends who find standing in front of the kitchen sink, rinsing one plate after the other, gently rubbing the edges of spoons and forks with a dish scrub and then arranging them neatly in the dish washer, "therapeutic". I don't. I love those friends and wish...

Fiyazis

As we’re deep into winter now, the number of heavy rainy and windy days has increased, nothing's more comforting than a cup of chai and hot crispy Fiyazis on days like this. My love for these deep-fried crispy mouthfuls came to life with my second pregnancy and has been...
The past couple days have been really good. I being a new blogger giggle with joy like a baby when I discover something new out here and if something positive comes out of it, that's just awesome.  I recently got to know about and submitted some of my photographs on...

Seekh Kabab

No I am not writing another book. I wrote one last year and I still get nightmares of those days so I'm fine for now. NO, I am not pregnant either. I already got a 3 feet long bundle of "joy" (read insanity) who is trying hard to climb on...
How do you like avocados? I feel like there are only two kinds of people in the world, ones who love avocado madly and then there are ones who do not. As much as I am absolutely and completely in love with the fruit although I can also understand...
Surprise your Valentine with these gluten free, delectable and delicate Yogurt Kebabs that taste even better with some nutty green chutney. Ingredients: For the Kebabs 250 grams (1 cup approx) thick hung Yogurt (I could procure 1 cup of yogurt from 3 cups of homemade yogurt.) 2 tsp slightly roasted Bengal gram powder...
My kids love finger food specially for school lunch and I love packing it for them too. They love them because it isn't messy and they do not need to run for napkins or washroom after a meal. Not that they would even if they had to! I like...
I got to know Bee from Rasa Malaysia a couple months back. Wait, let me rephrase that, "Bee got to know about me and Indian Simmer a couple months back" because I've known her forever! Ever since I was not even a food blogger. Like everyone else, my first...
