Besan Dhokla is my fav breakfast. Made from besan this dish is nutritious, low calorie, protein rich recipe ideal for breakfast and snack time. You can serve Dhokla in many ways – Idlli , Muffins or “Dhokla cake”. Recipe is the same only way of serving is different 😋😋😋
But this Dhokla cake is little different. It’s sugarless. Generally we add sugar to make dhokla little sweet. So I replace sugar with orange juice or mosambi juice. It makes Dhokla more tastier and more healthier.
For Dhokla :
Besan – 1 cup
Sooji – 4 tbsp
Curd – 1/2 cup
Water – 1/2 cup
Oil – 1 tsp
Eno – 1 tsp
Haldi – 1/2 tsp
Juice of one lemon
Finely chopped green chilles – 2
Grated ginger – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
For Tempering :
Rai – 1/2 tsp
Jeera – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 1/2 tbsp
Water – 1 & 1/4 cup
Finely chopped green chilli – 1
Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
Fresh orange juice or Mosambi juice
– 2 medium size
Mix all above Dhokla ingredients except eno.
And keep aside for 10 mins.
Now add eno and pour 1 tsp of lemon juice over it. Mix well.
Pour Dhokla batter into grease rectangular shape cake pan and steam for 15-20 minutes
Check with toothpick if it cum out clean then it’s done.
Allow to cool completely.
Heat oil in a small pan, first add the mustard seeds. Let them pop first.Then add cumin and allow to crackle. Now add chopped green chillies.
In bowl mix water, lemon juice.
Add this mixture into tempering and boil for a minute.
Then pour this hot mixture over steamed besan Dhokla steamed cake.
Keep aside for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes add fresh Orange juice or Mosambi juice and serve immediately.
Enjoy with green chutney or sauce 🙂
* Add juice just before serving.
* Mosambi juice gives more sweet and tangy taste.
